Members of the Research Committee recently spent a week at the National Archives in Washington DC digitizing original records of the Cherokee Removal. Robin Swayney and Anita Finger-Smith represented NC TOTA for the week of research. The goal is to locate and scan every possible record available which can document the Removal from both the aggregate and the individual perspective. The hope is to make these records accessible to our membership, as well to the general public, academics and historians, and especially to members of the Cherokee community. You can participate in this project by indexing and transcribing some of the records already online or making a donation to accelerate the process of retrieving more records located at NARA in Washington DC and other repositories.
